Technostress as the Dominant Determinant of Burnout and Turnover Intention in the Digital Era

Authors

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of technostress and work-life balance on burnout and turnover intention among service company employees. The study sample consisted of 189 first-line employees selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data collection was conducted via an online questionnaire utilizing a Likert scale. Data analysis was performed using multiple linear regression with two separate models. The results showed that technostress has a positive effect on burnout and turnover intention, whereas work-life balance has a negative effect on burnout and turnover intention. Technostress was found to be the more dominant variable compared to work-life balance in influencing both dependent variables. The simultaneous contribution to burnout is 48.7 percent, and to turnover intention is 42.3 percent. Managerial implications of this study highlight the need for technostress reduction programs through digital literacy training, flexible work policies, and the restriction of digital communication outside working hours.
